Tour Plan :
08:30 Meeting with the Driver for the Garda Lake Tour
10:00 First visit is the medieval town of Sirmione.
The Brescian side of the lake begins at Sirmione which has been famous since ancient times for its health-giving spa water. The peninsula on which it stands sticks out into the water about 4 km and is one of the most enchanting places on the lake. In Roman times villas were built there including that of the poet Catullus who wrote of the beauty of the lake in his verses.
Nature and history: Sirmione is full of art treasures and history starting with the Scaliger Castle through which one must pass to reach the town centre.
The town itself is closed to private traffic (except for hotel guests).
Scaliger Castle was built in the 13th century by Mastino I della Scala, lord of Verona, as a berth for the Scaliger fleet.
It has a large dock and the surrounding walls cut the town off from direct contact with the mainland. Completely surrounded by water, the Castle is a miniature architectural jewel of towers, courtyards and a drawbridge.
After passing the Castle, the visitor enters the narrow lanes and small squares of the town itself lined with boutiques, antique shops, bars and restaurants and from there continues past the spa to the Grotte di Catullo on the tip of the peninsula, where there are the remains of a big Roman villa. It was built in early Imperial times and is the largest Roman villa uncovered in north Italy measuring 167 by 105 m.
11:00 Leaving Sirmione to make a stop in Lazise.
Between Peschiera and Bardolino lies the town of Lazise, whose name comes from "lacenses" that means "lacustrine place", the town that you will visit.
The ancient nucleus of the town has medieval origin; it is surrounded by the walls erected by the Scaliger Family in the 14th century and its charming setting is dominated by the castle.
With its picturesque nooks, Lazise is an enchanting place especially the square (piazza) and the small port, still animated by fishermen's boats. The characteristic narrow alleys are full of shops and arcades with bars and Restaurants face the small port of Lazise.
11:45 Leaving Lazise to Punta San Vigilio. You will pass by the towns of Bardolino (well known for the wine) and Garda. You will have your lunch in Punta San Vigilio, a romantic setting.
14:00 You leave this lovely place to Torri del Benaco, in a very short distance. Here you will across the lake with a farry-boat to reach Maderno.
15:00 From Maderno you will drive along the lake to Limone del Garda. Passing the village of Gardone, you will make a detour by a panoramic route climbs to Tignale, up to the Tremosine plateau before descending to Limone del Garda.
16:00 Visit of Limone, one of the lake's most attractive villages. Terraced lemon groves, often under glass, stretch along the lake shores.
Limone became famous in 1979 when the APOLIPOPROTEIN A-1 MILANO was discovered. This protein which is in the blood of the people born in Limone quickly removes the fat from the arteries and leads it to the lever wich in the end eliminates. This protein is efficacious against arteriosclerosis and infarct.
